Quote for Today

Heard a great quote yesterday about discipline and reason. Apparently it’s an old Italian proverb:
“That ship which will have no rudder, must have a rock.”

@JohnPiper on twitter

I’ve had conversations with friends recently about the Church’s approach to and use of the internet and social media.  John Piper has started using twitter and, unlike most folks who take up technology without consideration, has posted about his reasons for it on his blog.

He says he sees two responses to social media and the internet.  I would add a third, which I think is much more prevelant: the adoption of technology without any consideration of the consequences that he mentions.

Camping

I made a deal with my daughter that if she got 100 AR (I think it means advanced reading), Accelerated Reader, points by the time school was out I would take her camping.  I’m glad she made it because I wanted to take her camping anyway.  Good time at Tishomingo State Park this weekend.  I think the highlight might have been getting a Coca Cola in a glass bottle at the gas station leaving the park.

Black 47

I’m up to Black 47, which made a pretty interesting transition from Bing Crosby singing ‘When Irish Eyes are Smiling’. 13764 Left to go, which means about 400 or so to put me back to where was before I started. New rule, no new music until I’ve listened to 1000 songs I already have.
